Goal:
To teach children, adults, seniors & businesses how to be safe, everywhere, everyday.
Project Overview:
The “Metro West Safety Town” prevention and safety campus will educate all ages on how they can prevent injuries everywhere, everyday. In cooperation with the Metro West Fire Protection District this critical initiative will, when completed, provide a regional location for people of all ages a fun and safe environment to learn safety, prevention, mitigation and other skills. As a result, this will reduce injuries and property loss as a result of disasters and other related emergencies.
Metro West Safety Town Headquarters will be an approximately 30,000

square foot learning environment for all ages. The complex will be the center-post on a 2 1/2 acre development in the heart of Wildwood.
Outdoors, visitors will experience “Safety City”, this mini cityscape will be complete with functional small scale houses, businesses, train tracks, waterways, and paved roadways. “Safety Town Headquarters” and “Safety City” will soon become a St. Louis Area destination for all ages.
Programs:
Children Programs & Activities
In “Safety Town Headquarters” and “Safety City” children will learn how they
can prevent injuries while in the home, on their bicycles, in the car, or at school. These educational opportunities will reinforce and repeat life saving steps for fire prevention, poisoning awareness, child passenger safety, and the importance of bicycle helmets and overall safety while playing on residential streets.
Adult Programs & Activities
Safety Town will also focus on the importance of preparedness for adults. Through seminars on fires, floods, earthquakes, tornados, heat waves, winter storms, & disaster preparedness adults will learn how they can prepare, prevent, and mitigate the impact that these disasters have. In addition, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training will also be available at Safety Town. CERT training is a 20 hour training where adults get hands on experience on how they can respond to a disaster in their community. The course concludes with a full-scale disaster exercise in the “Safety City”. Adults will also be able to learn CPR, First Aid, and other life saving skills.
Senior Safety Programs
We are commitment to ensuring the safety of our loved ones who are over the age of 65 years old. Our Senior Safety Programs will focus on safety skills for those who are still living at home or at retirement communities. Classes on cooking at home, slips, trips, falls, medication safety at “Safety Town Headquarters” will be held weekly. Residents at St. Louis Area retirement communities will be brought to our facility to learn from our safety experts.
Business Preparedness
St. Louis Area Businesses will be taught how to develop critical safety plans for their employees and facility through one and two day seminars held at “Safety Town Headquarters”. These businesses will leave with the knowledge and skills to assure that when a disaster strikes their staff and facility are prepared to take care of their immediate needs and rebound following the disaster. The continuity of businesses is critical to every community’s economic stability. Metro West Safety Town will work with each individual business to build their capacity to respond to the needs following any disaster.
