Coordinator Thiemann started in emergency services as a volunteer for the Boles Fire Protection District in Franklin County in 1994. His professional career began while serving as a 9-1-1 dispatcher before becoming an educator with the American Red Cross in 1999. There he worked as Director for Health & Safety Programs and later as a Disaster Specialist of Community Disaster Education & Mitigation. He served as spokesperson with the Red Cross for disaster preparedness and response initiatives. While serving with the Red Cross Michael deployed to many local, statewide and national disasters where he assisted relief efforts. Most notably, Michael assisted in the development and deployment of the first “Terrorism Preparedness” program in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington DC on September 11, 2001.

In 2003, he started his career at Metro West. His initial assignment was to implement a Community Emergency Response Team training and to support the public relations and public education activities. As his position evolved, his roles and responsibilities now include Life Safety Education Program Manager, Media Relations Coordinator, Coordinator of Emergency Management, continuity of operations and disaster planning Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, website manager, and special project management.

Coordinator Thiemann serves as the Planning Section Chief for Region C Fire Mutual Aid and is a Type III member of the St. Louis Area All-Hazards Incident Support Team. He serves as Treasurer of the Board for the Missouri Fire Service Alliance and is a member of the St. Louis Metro Fire Service Alliance. Michael is a founding member of the Meramec Valley Citizen Corps Council and is active in CERT in St. Louis County. In 2017, Michael was assigned as the Metro West representative to lead the West St. Louis County Heroin Task Force.

Michael achieved his Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Management through Grand Canyon University. Currently, he is completing a Masters degree in Management & Leadership through Webster University. He holds many certifications in Emergency Management, Fire Service Planning, and Disaster Services through the National Fire Academy, Emergency Management Institute.
